The Wetzel Scholarship Committee has recommended that active MOSA Chapters at Missouri Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine be encouraged to involve members in the Missouri Osteopathic Annual Convention. Although students at each school are able to apply for the prestigious William L. Wetzel Scholarship, those not receiving the scholarship or those students with no intent to practice in Missouri need an opportunity to become involved in organized medicine.
The Wetzel Scholarship Committee has recommended that each MOSA chapter be eligible for the following:
A condominium or comparable room space located at the convention site.
Meal ticket packages for each participant selected by the organization to attend.
The MOSA Chapter must:
be duly accredited as a campus organization.
initiate a chapter project that promotes and/or advances osteopathic medicine.
participate in other campus/professional activities that promote and/or advance osteopathic medicine.
participate in the MAOPS D.O.c.-A-Day Program as a chapter prior to convention.
submit a complete list of all student MOAC attendees along with the grant application (maximum of 12 students from each chapter).
be recognized by osteopathic faculty or trainers to be exceptional in interests, willingness, and clinical abilities to serve patients and communities as physicians.
submit all requested information to the MAOPS Central Office as requested in a timely manner.
The following are minimum MAOPS guidelines for students attending MOAC using the MOSA chapter grant monies:
be an active member of the chapter
be in good academic standing
participate in all required MOAC meetings and social events
help plan and organize the Town Hall Meeting and Student Forum at MOAC
individually check-in and register at the annual convention
In order to be eligible for the grants, each chapter must submit a completed application to the MAOPS Central Office by December 31 of each calendar year.
