Physician of the Year

The Physician of the Year Award is presented to one physician during years when a worthy candidate exists for an outstanding accomplishment, event or service during the preceding calendar year. All candidates must be members of Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons.

The 2024 MAOPS Physician of the Year is Katie Davenport-Kabonic, DO, FAAFP. 

Dr. Davenport-Kabonic is being honored this year for her work securing a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture in partnership with Springfield Community Gardens to launch CoxHealth’s HealthScripts Program in Springfield.

Through this program, Dr. Davenport-Kabonic has worked with low-income patients providing locally grown fruits and vegetables, recipes, and nutrition and dietary education. Within this program, she has embodied the mission of osteopathic medicine, using the “food as medicine” approach to preventative healthcare.

Dr. Davenport-Kabonic is also a highly dedicated leader of MAOPS. On Sunday, she was installed as President-Elect after her many years of sitting on the Board of Trustees and several committees.

She continues to devote much of her time to MAOPS, all while raising a family and serving as the faculty physician at CoxHealth Family Medicine Residency Program.
