The YPN’s Guide to DOing Med School Podcast

Episode 1: You Can’t Spell Studying without Dying

Listen to the first episode of the brand new Young Physicians Network podcast, The YPN’s Guide to DOing Med School, hosted by Hannah Newland, OMS IV and Caleb Liles, OMS III. They discuss study strategies, useful websites/apps, and their experiences adjusting to the pace of medical school. MAOPS is particularly proud to be sharing Student Doctor Newland’s story, as we believe it will help a lot of first years who might be struggling right now or soon after their first exam.

Episode 2: Mentor Matchmaker

Episode 2 is hosted by Tam Nguyen, OMS-II and includes an interview with Dr. Jared Nichols as well as Student Doctor Ambrose, OMS-II. This episode covers mentorship – where to find a mentor, what to ask, the benefits of this type of support, and what it might look like throughout your career. It’s a realistic and honest discussion about something a lot of students struggle to develop.

Episode 3: Clubbing in Med School

This episode is hosted by medical student Kinsey Gudenkauf, OMS-III at ATSU-KCOM. Kinsey, alongside many other medical students throughout the episode, discuss what student orgs look like in med school. Be sure to listen to the end – MAOPS student chapter president Emily Burgard, OMS-II will provide insight into the club behind this podcast.

Episode 4: White Coats & Love Notes: Balancing Relationships in Med School

In this episode, Student Doctor Collin Reynolds, OMS-II at ATSU-KCOM, hosts a round table on relationships. Collin interviews two couples – one which started (nearly) at the anatomy lab table, and the other that planned their wedding during the bride’s first semester of medical school. Collin also shares his experience as a husband and new father, featuring his wife and nine-month-old son.

BONUS: Osteopathy Explained

In this bonus episode, Student Doctor Sammy DeLuca, MSW, OMS III, interviews Honorary DO Jason Haxton, MA – Director of the Museum of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, MO. They discuss the founding of osteopathy by Dr. Andrew Taylor Still, his unique upbringing and education, and how DOs and MDs continue to differ in meaningful ways today.

Also in this episode – learn how you can enter our giveaway (supported by AMAOPS) to win a $100 Figs gift card and get some new scrubs! Giveaway ends December 31.
